Tall el-Hammam not Shittim

The Zondervan Archaeological Bible has an article on page 233 that states that Tall el-Hammam is the ancient site of Shittim, the last stop for the Israelites before crossing into the promised land. Scott Stripling has an excellent article in the recent Newletter "Digging the Past" the official newsletter of TeHEP (Tall el-Hammam Excavation Project). You can read this article along with the official season excavation summary at the Trinity SouthWest website. Also the argument is well made that Bab edh-Dhra' is not Sodom. Dr. Collins points out "Bab edh-Dhra was destroyed several hundred years before Abraham and Lot were ever born, and besides, it's entirely in the wrong place!" Tall el-Hammam has all the marking geographically, chronologically, and stratigraphically. Check out the satellite image for yourself and see if it is on the edge of the round plain (Hebrew Kikkar) of the Jordan Valley.
