Tell el-Hammam Archaeological Project

I have just signed up with an Tall el-Hammam Archaeological Project dig over the Christmas holidays. Dr. Steve Collins of Trinity Southwestern University believes it to be the lost city of Sodom. They have been five years waiting for the research visa to begin the dig on this site. Time will tell what we find but it is an ancient site with alot of late Iron age material (1200-1000 BC). This is usually the period between the conquest and King David.

Dr. Bryant Wood and others have identified Bab edh-Dhra as the ancient city of Sodom. "The Discovery of the Sin Cities of Sodom and Gomorrah," by Bryant G. Wood, Bible and Spade, Summer 1999, pp. 67-80. If Tall el-Hammam is the city of Sodom then one would expect to find evidence of a fire at a very early date as there is in Bab edh-Dhra. I will keep you posted and hopfully have some photos.
